Your requirements are to run Microsoft SQL Server and use Microsoft Office. Both are memory hogs. So I would recommend you buy a system with more memory. The processing power depends on how much the database will be accessed. If it’s for very light usage, then you can get away with the older generation processor. I assume you’ll be using older versions of MS SQL Server and MS Office.

I got attracted to 24 Jan 2023 date on the article. Started reading, but stopped early. Too much for me to take. I am not too tech savy when it comes to hardware. Can I ask a point blank if you cold render your opinion please. I want to use MS SQL (to run a 6 GB DataBase and little if any SQL querying by myself). I don;t play games and do not watch high res movies. I don;t Video edit and most of my work revolves around MS Office. How much of a difference it would make if I bought an old 4th gen, or 5th gen or 6th gen. I know that newer is generally better, but would it really matter in my case you think. I would really much appreciate your reply.
Jazak’Allah’Khair.

Thank you. Will love to read more from you.

Thankyou brother for the above information. Please tell me which is the fastest possible core i processor compatible on my LGA 1156 socket (or, H55 series) mother board?

You know, the very first commercially available microprocessor.

By default, the 2nd gen had two cores. Four cores were available only for special processors made for Workstation laptops etc. But with Gen 8th, Core i7 comes with 4 cores by default.
