Yes and in that case, you may use URL and all linked pages option so that all the homepage content including the new articles is indexed instantly.

I have been testing it for different scenarios. When I publish a lot of articles, I simply get my homepage indexed using this method and all the articles get indexed along with it. But for a new blog, only indexing will not help. You need a few links before Google starts ranking your articles in the search results.
