After the recent release of Windows 11 22H2, Microsoft is now preparing to roll out Windows 10 22H2 next month in October 2022. However, they are now shifting to a new naming convention which will be “Windows 10 October 2022 Update.” Since Microsoft now only rolls out one feature update per year, it makes sense to name the update in the year launched.
That said, unlike “Windows 11 2022 Update,” the name for Windows 10 22H2 also includes the month it is being released since this is the convention Microsoft has been using since the initial release of Windows 10.
Microsoft has subtly let known to the public that Windows 10 October 2022 Update will be coming soon in a blog post directed at the release of Windows 11 latest feature update.
Windows 10 October 2022 Update Expected Release Date
Microsoft has confirmed that the new feature debut for Windows 10 22H2 will be released in October 2022. This has been confirmed in a blog post by Microsoft, although they did not disclose the exact date at the moment:

Although Microsoft did not comment on the date, but in our experience, feature updates usually roll out on the second or the third Tuesday of the month. However, since it did not release on the second Tuesday, it is very much likely that Windows 10 22H2 will be released on 18th October 2022.
If your device does not meet the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11, then you can continue to use Windows 10 for the next few years. Microsoft will be servicing Windows 10 until October 14, 2025, so your devices will be receiving feature as well as security updates till that time comes.
How to Upgrade to Windows 10 October 2022 Update
When the feature update for Windows 10 will be publically released, Microsoft will publish its standalone ISO files as well as make them available through Windows Update. You could then perform a clean install using the ISO images, or upgrade your current Windows 10 machines by navigating to the following and checking for available updates:
Settings app >> Update & Security >> Windows Updates
If you are currently running Windows 11, then you will probably not receive Windows 10 22H2 via Windows Update. However, you could use the ISO files to clean install Windows 10 October 2022 Update.
If you plan on installing it through Windows Update, then the update itself won’t be very large in size, since it will be an enablement package. An enablement package activates the already-deployed hidden features inside the operating system that have previously been placed on your system (secretly), usually through cumulative updates.
Is it Safe to Upgrade to Windows 10 22H2?
Normally, we would recommend users update their OSs to the latest feature update available since it includes a bunch of features and security implementations. However, the recent experience with Windows 11 22H2 has been a disaster for some.
As we reported earlier, users having NVIDIA GPUs and the GeForce Experience app installed experienced some serious stuttering and performance issues for a few days after installing Windows 11 22H2, and the only option they had was either to bear with it or roll back the Windows update.
Thankfully, NVIDIA took prompt action and mitigated the problem through an emergency update. But the point is that, even though the Windows updates are vetted through feedback while being tested in the Insider channels, they can still be catastrophic.
That said, we recommend that you hold off from upgrading at least a few weeks after the Windows 10 October 2022 Update has been released so that Microsoft can work out its kinks (if any) and then upgrade to it when it is stable and safe.
